This five-week course offers women of all ages and backgrounds the
opportunity to learn the art of 16mm filmmaking. The course is suitable
for all levels of experience.
Over
five Wednesday evenings, the group will meet at IFCO to learn theoretical
and practical elements of filmmaking. Topics covered include: film
production theory, project development, budgeting & funding,
using the ECLAIR NPR 16mm camera, lighting techniques, editing on
Final Cut Pro.
The ECLAIR NPR 16mm camera is light weight, quiet and comes with coaxial magazines that can hold 400’ rolls of film or 100’ daylight spools. This workshop will give you a chance to learn the key features and basic operation of the Éclair camera. You will get ample time to practice loading and unloading the film magazine, running film through the camera and proper procedures to build the camera from the ground up.
The following is included in the workshop:
1 - 100’ roll of 16mm Color/B+W Negative Film
Cost of processing and transferring film to a digital format
6 hours of edit time on Final Cut Pro digital edit station
15 hours of instruction time
Equipment rentals (some restrictions apply)
DVD copy of final film (by request ONLY)
Instructor's Bio:
Irina Lyubchenko is a practicing interdisciplinary artist working in photography, film and mixed media. She received her Master of Fine Arts (in Visual Arts) from the University of Ottawa, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (in Photography Studies) from Ryerson University. Her experimental film practice is an extension of her photographic background and centres on constructing narratives that offer multifaceted interpretations within a conceptual framework.
