A large part of the sound recorded on a film set, whether it be an independent or commercial film is miked using an overhead boom and shotgun mic. One advantage of using a shotgun mic is being able to keep good sound perspective. When the camera goes in for a tight shot the boom mic can move in as well and on wide shots the boom can pull out with the camera and still pick up the dialogue clearly.

To learn more about sound recording and mic positioning sign up for IFCO’s advanced sound recording workshop.

Some of the topics to be discussed will be.
• Sound perspective
• Mic positioning and booming techniques
• Alternative mic setups
• Using a field mixer
• Introduction to wireless mics
• Tips and hints to getting a good recording

Instructors Bio:
Adam has been working in the film and video industry for 7 years. After graduating from the Pacific Film & New Media Academy in Victoria, BC, he worked on dozens of projects, both large and small, as a Production Assistant, Lamp Operator, Set Decorator and Camera Operator before shifting his focus to Location Sound Production.

Having worked within various sound departments as a Sound Assistant, Boom Operator and Sound Mixer, he went back to teach sound classes at the school from which he graduated. He has recently moved back to his hometown of Ottawa and is looking forward to meeting Ottawa filmmakers and collaborating on future projects.

Adam's teaching style is laid back. Expect a good mixture of humor, film set experience and technical knowledge. His focus will be on helping you get the best possible audio track onto your recorder.

Enrolment for this class is limited, and will be on a first come, first served basis. If you have any questions or if you wish to register for this workshop please contact our Membership Coordinator Tasha Waldron at (613) 569-1789 or you can e-mail her at admin@ifco.ca.
