17th, 2010 A large part of the sound recorded on a film set, whether it be an independent or commercial film is miked using an overhead boom and shotgun mic. One advantage of using a shotgun mic is being able to keep good sound perspective. When the camera goes in for a tight shot the boom mic can move in as well and on wide shots the boom can pull out with the camera and still pick up the dialogue clearly. Bio: Having worked within various sound departments as a Sound Assistant, Boom Operator and Sound Mixer, he went back to teach sound classes at the school from which he graduated. He has recently moved back to his hometown of Ottawa and is looking forward to meeting Ottawa filmmakers and collaborating on future projects. Adam's teaching style is laid back. Expect a good mixture of humor, film set experience and technical knowledge. His focus will be on helping you get the best possible audio track onto your recorder. Enrolment for this class is limited, and will be on a first come, first served basis.
