About the Workshop

This 3 hour workshop will provide a review of topics relating to intellectual property, tax credits, labour law and contracts, including:

1. how to option/purchase the film/TV rights on a book, play, or article
2. how to deal with unions like ACTRA and SAG with a breakdown of their various Producer-Performer Agreements
3. how to protect your copyrighted material
4. how to earn tax credits for film production in Canada and Ontario
5. how to draft option agreements, performance releases, locations releases, etc.

This workshop is designed for the aspiring producer-director seeking solid grounding in the film business.


Instructor’s Bio:
Anna Laperle is President of Arriviste Films and a recent graduate of the law program at the University of Ottawa. She has a BAH in Film Studies from Queen's University in Kingston as well as a MA in Media Studies from the University of Sussex. She is currently enrolled in Bar Admission courses and continues to do production work on assorted projects, including a feature documentary about a gay Southern Gospel singer. She has completed three short films, including Answered Prayers (2005), The Fact of Blackness (1997) and The Secret Doctrine of Women (1996). Anna Laperle has been an active member of IFCO since 2002.
